The School Play
The end of the year school play is one of MLCP’s traditions. The first thing the teachers need to do is to choose a play for the students to preform. Once the play is chosen the teachers will select which students will play the various roles. The roles are chosen based on the children’s personalities and their ages. To start preparing, the class will meet in order to receive their scrips and learn which role they will play. Our computer teacher works hard to print a script for each child. Practice is the key to a successful play. The students practice each day both individually and as a group. While the children are practicing, they also work on there costumes. Each role requires a very different costume the students and their parents work on creating and coordinating the costume. While they keep practicing in order to improve the teachers provide them with tips and tricks. Prior to the main performance there is a full dress rehearsal in front of the entire school. Finally, the day has arrived for the big performance the students must come approximately an hour before the guest arrive (parents and family members). The play takes place at the main building (401) in the gym. The front couple of rows are set up with mats and tiny chairs for the younger children and the rest of the gym is filled with regular chairs for the adults. Just prior to the play starting, the principal, Nicola will give a speech to the parents about the play and all the hard work that the children have put in. Once the play starts and just for the first few minutes the students panic and they have stage fright but after that its smooth sailing. Once the play is over the students give the teachers a gift to show their appreciation for their time and effort. To end the day everyone enjoys snacks and celebrates their successful performance!
