Country living in Clarington

There is always lots to do in our community. Depending on the season, I can join my friends, neighbors and family in many fun activities every day.

In the summer, Clarington has many farms where you get to pick your own fruit. My mom and I go to Wilmot farms to pick organically grown blueberries, and Tallboots farms to pick red and yellow raspberries. There are many other farms nearby where you get to pick strawberries and apples. In the town of Kendal they have the Clarington Honey Festival every year, and you can buy all different honey products. My mom and I have bee hives, its easy to have them when you live in the country. One day we will sell our honey in the community too. Many farmers in our Clarington make their living this way, growing and selling food. At the end of summer we have the Orono Fair! We love to go and eat lots of cotton candy as well as seeing all of the farms animals. My mother likes to check out the quilt and pie entries from our community. My mom quilts but she has not entered one before. The Orono fair is a big tradition. In the winter you can go down hill skiing at Brimacombe Ski resort. I have been taking lessons there for over 4 years. It is so much fun. l also play hockey for Orono. Last year we played in a tournament that lasted all day! I have made many new friends playing hockey and my mom has met other moms too. Anytime of the year you can go hiking in the Ganaraska forest. If you like bugs, climbing trees or going on an adventure walk then you would love this forest. Our home is also great for hiking and exploring. When you live in the country you can have a really big backyard. Ours is acres and we even have a creek with trout and salmon in it. When we see the fish we are careful not to let our dog in the creek.

Our community values nature and the environment. Most of our activities are outside and use the land and water so they need to be kept clean and safe. We visit the city whenever we want to, it’s not that far away. I love living in a country community. My home is in Clarington and Clarington is awesome!
